This course focuses on how to manage and prepare for a child or young person’s placement and the end of placements. Practical and useful tips are given to help ensure that the child and young person’s care runs as smoothly as possible. Furthermore, research and theories such as reflective practice are also explored.

The main learning objectives of the course are as follows:

  • To know how to prepare for a child or young person to stay
  • To understand the end of the placement
  • To understand safer caring and positive risk
  • To consider the impact of some common transitions on children and young people
  • To explore how carers and their families can help children and young people to manage periods of change
  • To understand the carer’s role in preparing children and young people of all ages for satisfying and successful adult lives
  • To know the importance of reflective practice

This course meets the Children’s Home Quality Standards as outlined in The Children’s Homes Regulations (England) 2015 and Children’s Homes Quality Standards 2015.
