This course is a comprehensive guide to the LGBT community and explains sexualities, genders, and gender identity. The course provides examples of different sexualities and genders and gives advice on caring and supporting young transgender people. There is also information about the findings from the 2017 Life in Scotland for LGBT Young People survey.

The main learning objectives of the course are as follows:

• To be aware of sexualities
• To understand how many genders there are
• To know the differences between gender dysphoria and gender identity
• To be aware of the transgender community and who they are
• To understand adolescent transgender young people
• To know how to support transgender children

This course meets the Children’s Home Quality Standards as outlined in The Children’s Homes Regulations (England) 2015 and Children’s Homes Quality Standards 2015.
